Creating a database with mkdbase errors with "service not running"

On Windows the Reality Service, Session Manager, needs to be running in order for mkdbase to run.

The Reality Service, Session Manager, should run automatically from Windows start up.

First, check this using Windows Services, you should see a Reality Vxx.0 service set as Automatic with a Status of Started. If not, you can start this manually either by clicking on the Service name and using the Start button, or you can use the following from an MS Dos command prompt: realserv -s  If this starts, retry the mkdbase command.

If you still get the error "service not running" there may have been a problem with how Reality uses shared memory files. So then use a MS Dos command prompt and stop the Reality Services using, realserv -e, and remove any shm_ files in \realman\Vxx.0\files and then restart the Services using a realserv -s.

If you're still having issues with this please contact your local support.
